Feel Good Music- Home

I was hooked from the first whistled note. "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is my current feel good song. Clever, quirky lyrics combined with a beat that you can't help but nod along with, this is a song you can play again and again. On top of the great lyrics and tune, the instruments range from the trumpet to the guitar to the tambourine. Reminiscent of something from the Juno or Garden State soundtrack, "Home" makes me think of cross country road trips and outdoor music festivals. The only thing I don't absolutely love about this song is the dialogue in the middle. "Home" reinforces that it isn't where you are, but who you are with that matters.

And that's your daily good thing.

"Moats & boats & waterfalls, alley ways & pay phone calls,I’ve been everywhere with you
That’s true
We laugh until we think we’ll die, barefoot on a summer night

Nothin’ new is sweeter than with you
...Home is wherever I’m with you"

Christmas Music!

One of my favorite things about this time of year is listening to Christmas music. It just wouldn't be Christmas without Bing Crosby crooning Silver Bells, Mariah Carey belting All I want for Christmas is You, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir hitting every note in Carol of the Bells, and of course Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang letting us know that Christmas Time is Here. Listening to Christmas music always puts me in the Christmas spirit. Below is a playlist with some of my favorite Christmas music on it. In addition to the songs above it has Christmas classics sung by the Chipmunks, Elvis, Bruce Springstein, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Andy Williams and Ella Fitzgerald. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!

Feel Good Music- Fly Me Away

Listen to feel good music! Songs with an upbeat tune or cheerful lyrics, songs that make you smile. Listening to feel good music can make your whole day better, and in a matter of mere minutes. Of course everyone will have different feel good music, but Fly Me Away by Annie Little (you might recognize it from the Amazon Kindle Commercials) is my feel good song of the week. Not only do I love the tune, the lyrics are playful, sweet and sentimental all at the same time. The combination makes for the perfect feel good song. Thanks to Kevin Tsang for sending the song my way.
Enjoy.

And that's your daily good thing!

Discover New Music

I love the feeling of hearing a new song and instantly loving it. Or giving a song I wasn't sure about a second chance and changing my mind about it. There are lots of ways to discover new music. One of my favorite ways is with Pandora.com. If you haven't used this awesome website, I highly reccomend it. You type in a song or artist you like, and it generates music that sounds similar to it. Occasionally it is a little hit or miss, but I have found lots of great music that way that I might not have ever found.

Another great way to find new music...ask your friends! We all have those really cool friends who seem to have been born with a 6th sense for knowing good music. Ask them to burn you a CD, or give you a list of their favorite songs. Until one of my best friends in high school burned me a CD I pretty much listened exclusively to the Top 40. The radio is a fun way to hear new songs too, but it was so exciting to have my mind (and ears) opened to music I had never heard before.

Don't forget to give lots of different music genres a try. Revisit the classics and rediscover old favorites.

And of course listen to music from around the world. It is a fantastic way to expand your music taste, and is wonderfully transportive. Just because you can't understand the lyrics doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. After all isn't music the international language?

And that's your daily good thing!

Harmonize

Sharing music with friends and loved ones is a great pick me up. From exchanging mixed tapes and burning cds for one another, the gift of music is timeless. I am always excited anytime a friend burns me a CD. Whether the songs have special meaning, have great lyrics, or are just fun to dance to, there are few things that can beat sharing great music with a friend or loved one. There are so many ways to share music now. If you hear a great song on the radio and it reminds you of someone, text or call them to tell them about it. Or send them a link to the youtube music video of the song. And of course you can't ever go wrong with burning a CD of your favorite tunes and giving it to someone special.

As I get older, my world gets bigger and I now have friends all over the world. Sometimes I will send a cd in the mail, or e-mail them the name and artist of my new favorite song. But I have found an even better way to share music with loved ones who are far away, or even ones who are close by. Check out www.projectplaylist.com . You download songs to your profile, and you can access those songs anywhere that has internet. It is really fun, and easy, to make a "joint" project playlist with friends. One person has to make the account, and then share the username and password. Make the ultimate playlist with your friends and loved ones. "Harmonize" your music tastes. It is a really great way to share music, and to feel close even if you are far away. Here I am having way too much fun listening to music from my boyfriend.

Making a playlist with a friend or loved one, and having that music to listen to, is an easy way put a smile on your face.
